10 Things Black people should be doing to attain economic freedom

10 Things Black people should be doing to attain economic freedom

1.       Stop doubting themselves
Many Black people have a tendency of doubting each other and their ability to solve problems, this is a self defeating attitude that keeps us poor.

2.       Start trusting their own ideas
Creativity is at the core of being black, most things about the black reality inspire creative thinking and ideas, many of these ideas can solve black people’s problems, with a little trust in our own ideas we can achieve so much more.

3.       Stop looking for a job
The idea that black problems will be solved by a job is the wrong notion, a job may provide the financial relief temporarily, however it cannot change a mind-set, which is an area where black people suffer, our mind-set is geared to believe that we are tools, things to be used to achieve other people’s goals, this mind-set is what we should change, we are not tools, we are valuable stake-holders in our society who can bring about change through our contribution and work.

4.       Start valuing their skills
Society does not value our skills, therefore we are paid to survive not to prosper, many companies pay black people for their skills relative to perceptions of us. Our skills and contributions are not as valued as our counter-parts we are like a big discount store where others can get everything they need for the least amount possible, we need to start charging accordingly for our skills and stop under-valuing  our contribution.

5.       Stop being lazy
There are many opportunities available to us, in our townships, country and the continent as a whole, we should take a more active role in the pursuit of our economic freedom and there is no external messiah that will make us rich from the kindness of their heart.

6.       Start taking initiative
Our lack of will-power is the main reason we are poor post-colonialism. We live in Africa, a 90% black populated continent, but fail take advantage of  all the opportunities that our counter-parts have been able to, we complain about a lack of capital but spend millions collectively on retail goods, cars and alcohol.  The next-time you think about buying that Italian shoe or a BMW, you should think about investing in a business idea to grow your money instead.

7.       Stop being consumers
This customer mentality is our biggest down-fall; shopping is therapy some say. Stop it; we are superficial beings who value themselves by our possessions, our family and community structure has eroded because of this materialism.  The world is moving towards creation and producing to serve their communities, while we are busy flashing the latest I-PHONE

8.       Start being producers
We need to respond to the challenges our communities are facing, work together in changing the mind-set of our people, towards a more self reliant attitude, this will spark entrepreneurship that will resolve the high unemployment rate in our communities.

9.       Stop begging for opportunities
Hand outs have never solved any problem, instead of handouts we should be asking for support on already existing initiatives that we have started, they should find us on our way not at beginning of our journey, this will communicate our seriousness towards our own economic freedom.

10.   Start creating opportunities

Making money is a simple concept; it is about finding problems (there are many in our communities), solving those problems and charging a fair exchange. Once we can all grasp the concept, will be a step closer to our economic freedom.

Note: A lion will never eat grass, it is not pride it is nature.

Black is cool.

Black is cool

Black is cool, sounds a little racist doesn't it, but this the one thing that most white people seem to be comfortable accepting about black people, I have seen no protests over this statement. I recently came across a cover of the ebony magazines with President Barack Obama on the cover, now that brother is the poster boy of being cool, it's in the confidence of everything he does, few can claim that kind of cool. The cool I'm talking about is the fresh kicks, latest gadget kinda cool, that our white counter parts seem uninterested in.

Black is cool, so the question remains why are white people comfortable with that fact. Usually they are very competitive and refuse to be outdone any other race, take the Karate kid for instance we all know Asians invented Karate but NO, white people wanted in on the action, to the point of trying to make us believe that the wimpy white kid became the best Karate fighter after a few lessons with Mr Miyake that's how competitive they are. So the question still remains, why are they not competing for the cool factor.

The truth of the matter is that being cool does not pay, it costs money, it costs a lot of money, especially today, one needs to have the latest gadgets, coolest brands of clothing etc. My nephew recently asked me to buy him "a fresh pair of Jordan's", now I had to think about it for a bit. Yes Jordan's are cool and I'm sure he'll be the envy of his friends, being me, I started thinking about who is the real beneficiary of this cool business and quickly realized that most if not all cool stuff make  other races wealthy except blacks. So this brings me to one conclusion that the reason why white people are comfortable with letting blacks own the cool factor is because it makes them rich. Next time you want to brag about your cool kicks or gadget  think about who is your money going to? #GetCheesy

Note: If you change nothing at least make sure what you buy comes in black.

Poor people have no reason to be humble.

Poor people have no reason to be humble.

Our lives are a result of our circumstances, some may differ with this but it's true. Take for instance a child born in a poverty stricken environment where children are silenced, abused and not allowed to go to school, a child growing up here is destined for a failed life. Now there are many stories of people succeeding against all odds and yes... this does happen. The truth is, it is much easier to succeed with the right environment, this environment can be a country, a city, the right parents, mentors, competitive friends etc. Ignoring this fact is delusional.

Therefore those who find themselves in an environment that is not conducive to succeed, need to loose themselves, meaning you need to abandon all that you have known and experienced, from your timid friends, your mind-set to your behavior and little non progressive tendencies like being humble, sweet, apologetic etc. Only when one has lost and given up their old Identity, may they forge a new one, full of possibilities. #GetCheesy

5 things to consider when seeking change.

1. Doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for different results is delusional if not stupid.
2. Slaves cannot be masters as long as they associate with other slaves. Learn the masters way.
3. Change is like aging, it happens. Never resist it, despite the comfort of what you know.
4. Loose the fear, doubts, questions and go for it, blindly with no knowledge or education, just do it.
5. Have a deserving mentality, poor people have nothing to be humble about, they must demand what they want.

Bonus point: If you are not rich you are poor and yes I do know about the "middle class". So you too need to change.

A modern day self portrait: The Selfie.

A modern day self portrait: The Selfie.

Is it me or the word Selfie sounds a lot like Selfish, anyway social media has brought so many great things to us, the Selfie is one of them, in fact the Selfie can claim the number 1 spot for the the most widely used 'thing" on social media.  The Selfie is such a great invention that cell phone companies are considering it when creating new phones. Some say taking a Selfie is narcissistic, there are some valid points to this argument, such as; it is a lonely act for people who live on-line. I tend to disagree with some parts though.

Have you ever asked a friend at a party to take a picture of you and received a blurry, disgusting, milky thing that doesn't even show your good side (Picture) or better yet have someone take pictures of you looking your best and never share them with you. I think  the Selfie is a stand against haters, people who will never praise your make-up, beautiful eyes, hair-style etc. It is men and women taking charge of how they want to be portrayed on-line, the Selfie allows you the opportunity to put out your best picture. Gone are the day of ugly pictures of people looking weird and stoned, with the help of the Selfie today looking good is a choice, at least on-line. The Selfie is a modern day self portrait. B.S. Note: The word Selfie has been used 10 times in this article, the number of times it takes to take the perfect on-line picture.

#GetCheesy

#GetCheesy

We all have the ability to change our lives for the better, never give up. Kasi to kasi we all have the potential to change our family history. With a little more effort and a vision to see beyond our situation, we can achieve more. Reject negativity by any means necessary, refuse to be useless, remove limitations, hate mediocre, keep the faith and stay strong. You are not a victim of your circumstance, you are a game-changer, an innovator, it begins with you and continues beyond you. You are the answer, the chosen one. So dream big, beautiful dreams for your life. BS. Mabuza #GetCheesy

I don't love you anymore. I think?

I don't love you anymore. I think?

what twisted, it is more transactional than spiritual, we love the way we transact, tit for tat.

We seem to say: "I love you because you are perfect and if you make a mistake, I don't love you anymore", so like all adventurous in search of the perfect stone, I cannot tolerate anything less, least of all anything human with human mistakes that date back to Adam and Eve".

However I beg to differ with this concept of transactional love, I believe there is spiritual love, a kind of love that is untainted by the morden concept of what a man or woman should be and do to qualify as perfect, the kind that is everlasting, the kind that is self sacrifising versus selfish the kind that says I will never leave you no matter what, the kind that seems to say you're stuck with me for life or else you die (lol). That crazy kinda love. Who still says I'm crazy about you and actually means it.

5 points to consider:
1. Your friends are the problem.
2. Your Parents too are the problem.
3. The type of TV shows you watch, I'm serious. Generations is bad for you.
4. Your job, yes your job is the problem, especially if you have an ass for a Boss.
5. The fact that you are considering my advice, you are the biggest problem, who else shapes your ideas about love. Think about that, before you make that decision.

Yours

Impress to depress.

Impress to depress.

God, only You are perfect. I am so glad that even when people and circumstances fail, You never do. Instead of putting my hope in things that will disappoint, I choose a life of peace that only comes from putting my hope in You.-Joyce Meyer

I recently came across an article by Joyce Meyer, in the article she shares on how we are not perfect and expecting those around us to be perfect is silly, she goes on to say that only God is perfect.  This got me thinking about the year ahead that if I stop trying to be perfect and realize that only God is perfect, I may actually stop disappointing my self about what others do or don't do, about who's right, who is wrong and most importantly I would stop trying to impress people as this is the cause of all my depression.

Now this is not going to be easy especially for a guy like me, my whole life and career is based on impressing people, when they think I'm great then my work is done, equally it has been the reason for my greatest pain and sorrow, so what do I do. I find myself in a dilemma that contradicts my greatest wish, which is to acknowledge God as the only perfect thing in this world.

5 things I'm considering doing this year that may help?

1. Go bungee jumping. (This can help take the fear away, if I don't die doing it.)
2. Let go of my past. (I feel this area of my life is the reason I have the dilemma to begin with, especially the impressing part).
3. Tell the truth. (Especially when it hurts)
4. Find a hobby. Like sport. (I think this will help me understand that it's ok to loose sometimes).
5. Trust God. (You either worry or trust God, you can't do both).

Bonus point: If you think I've changed this year, I might not care what you think, so please be careful. #GetCheesy

B.S. Mabuza.

We are slaves and this must stop.

We are slaves and this must stop.

We do not need more sales assistance, call center agents, administrators, waiters, no more security guards, cleaners (I am yet to see a white cleaner), even entertainers let some other race entertain us for a change.  We need more game changers, more thinkers, mathematicians, scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs. More leaders less politicians, "enough is enough". Before you say, you are proud of your profession, ask yourself what difference does it make in the world. #GetCheesy

7 deadly Questions and Answers.

1.  We live in fear, with that said, what are the consequences of this fear that rules our lives?  The answer is simple we make decisions driven by this fear.

2.  Then what? We convince ourselves we have made the right decisions for us and our children.

3.  Then what? Then we convince others that this is the only way.

4.  So what? So we remain slaves.

5.  What can we do? Change

6.  What? Every single thing about us, especially the way we think.

7.  How? Each one Teach one, that the destiny of the Black man is in his hands not the government or any institution or company that poses as our friend.
